27 May Subtle cause of disease
When I was with my parents I saw an endocrinologist regularly, for a few years because of my hyperactive thyroid. In my 20s, after a few years on my own, in a different town, I thought it was time to see one again. I kind of felt guilty I neglected something that in the past was a routine. The doctor ran some tests and when the results came, I remember her telling me, smiling (she was very beautiful, and luminous): ‘I am sorry to disappoint you, but there’s nothing wrong with your thyroid’. I didn’t think too much about it at the time. 10 years later I found out about the existence of the subtle causes of diseases and the subtle cause of thyroid dysfunction is humiliation, ever-present in my childhood.
